Pawsmenu calculates the ingredients and amounts. Calculated amounts are estimates. These menus have not been verified as a complete and balanced daily diet. They should not be used as the sole daily diet.
Recipe target and scientific protein reference
Energy and life-stage nutrient references come from NRC 2006. For healthy adult and senior dogs, the protein floor considers both the NRC reference and FEDIAF 2025 recommendation. The FEDIAF adult maintenance recommendation is 4.95 × body weight (kg)0.75 grams of protein per day; the higher of the two reference floors is retained.
The adult recipe protein target is 60 grams per 1000 calculated kcal. This is a PawsMenu recipe design choice, not an optimum or protein upper limit established by NRC or FEDIAF. A higher scientific floor raises the recipe target. Energy and recipe protein use an acceptance tolerance of ±10%; protein must not fall below the floor.
Growth, pregnancy and nursing calculations use their own NRC life-stage references; the adult recipe choice does not automatically apply to these stages. Recorded ingredient amino acid amounts are also checked against the relevant references. This is not a digestibility measurement, clinical validation or guarantee of a complete and balanced diet.
The results show the recipe protein target separately from scientific protein references. These menus have not been verified to meet all vitamin and mineral needs.
